AlManarah Awards Celebration 10/07/2010 23:53:10 Last week AlManarah awarded prizes to outstanding people with visual disabilities at our Multi-Services Centre in Nazareth, and these prize-winners showcased their talents. The event started with greeting from Adv. Abbass, AlManarah’s Director, who expressed his great pleasure at launching this award-giving initiative, revealing that these awards will be made annually from now on. (ÇáãÒíÏ)

The event facilitator, Mr. Muhammed Diab, invited some of the winners to show the audience their talents. A very gifted child, 13-year-old Sona Darawashi from Iqsal village played the keyboard and entertained the audience with famous songs by diva Fairuz. Then eleven-year-old Soujut Sakar from Kfar Kana village read her own original spiritual poem. After that, two children, Maha Masri on the keyboard and Muhammed Reziq on the darbuka, entertained the audience with some lively songs. Next the adults presented their projects, including Ilham Mahamid’s initiative to train blind people to play ‘Goalball’ – an exciting competitive sport played three-on-three indoors on a gym floor; the ball has jingles in it so that it can be heard by the blind-folded players, who have to try to score goals by getting the ball past the opposing team, and to block the other teams’ goal attempts with their body.
Later Muhammed Diab invited Adv. Abbass and two board members, Dr. Sami Debeeny and Mr. Isam Khatib – former school principal, to award prizes to the winners. Six prizes were given to young people, and three to adults. Dr. Sami Debeeny, as a clinic psychologist stressed the role of the parents in nurturing the talents of their children. He also emphasized that the child is like a plant: If you give him the right conditions and nourishment, you will get a mature and talented person. The parents thanked AlManarah for this initiative and promised to continue following all AlManarah’s future events and activities.
